About Our Organization

Who We Are

Our commitment includes utilizing various theories such as Adlerian theory, Dr. Stephen Porges’s Polyvagal theory, Erikson’s Psychosocial Development, Piaget’s Cognitive Development, Positive Discipline, Conscious Parenting, Ayres Sensory Integration®, Dr. Daniel Siegel’s Window of Tolerance, among others. We offer a comprehensive range of services including classes, workshops, parent peer support, public speaking, advocacy support groups, an online community, newsletters, and conferences.

Furthermore, our focus is to families of color facing mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disabilities, recognizing the unique challenges they encounter. We aim to equip these families with acceptance, awareness, and support, enabling them to advocate effectively for essential services and empowering them to achieve their fullest potential.

At Supernova Parenting, we believe that proactive education, timely support, and inclusive advocacy are fundamental to creating a community where all families facing mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disabilities, regardless of race or neurodiversity, can thrive and contribute their unique strengths and perspectives

Our Mission and Vision

Our goal is to empower caregivers of families facing mental illness and intellectual developmental disabilities (IDDs) by improving their quality of life and wellbeing through education, support, and community. We aim to foster a community resource where all caregivers facing mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disability in their families can break down barriers to  thrive.

The Issue

According to the CDC 2023 Community Report on Autism, the percentage of white 8-year-old children diagnosed with autism is less than the percentage of Black, Hispanic, and Asian or Pacific Islander 8-year-old children diagnosed with autism for the first time ever since tracking.   However, autistic children of color still face diagnostic and treatment disparities due to “inequitable services, biases, cultural differences, and lack of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) knowledge”. With the increase of children of color diagnosed, there is an increased need for culturally competent and social justice education, resources, and support services for families facing mental illness and intellectual developmental disabilities (IDDs) that co-occur with ASD.

Our Commitment

As caregivers with mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disabilities with children with mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disabilities ourselves, we are committed to SEE YOU, HEAR YOU, HELP YOU, EMPOWER YOU, and SUPPORT YOU as much as we can.
